Through a panic-striken voice and behind streams of tears today, Grant informed me he DID NOT WANT TO and WAS NOT going to Kindergarten next year!
It is amazing what one is willing to trade in the moment to avoid discomfort.
In hindsight, I should have had Grant wait in the playroom while Gavin received his booster shot. Less battling would have transpired if Grant didn't witness what was in store for himself. Lessons learned.
arm bruises from jerking and tensing up with each shot
Mission accomplished, despite protests.
Kindergarten IS in his future.
KEEP BELIEVING
Oh I wish I would have known--with all 4 of my kids I was totally upfront about what was going to happen, but I threw in lots of "incentives" too. Just Mom alone, lunch, ice cream, the whole thing. They thought it was ALMOST worth it!
ReplyDeleteAt least he's done 'til he's 12 now!
Oh, poor sweetie! I'm glad he's going on to Kindergarten - he would have missed out on all the fun! Take care of that sweet boy - Kellan
ReplyDeleteWhen we took our then-4-year-old Brian for his immunizations, he took it like a trooper. Later, his little sister Rachel saw the band-aid on his arm and asked what happened. "Rachel," he said, seriously. "I was shot."
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.
The kindergarten cocktail. My kids all hated it. I'm glad he's done though and lived to tell the tale too!
ReplyDeleteOh man, I'm the big weenie when it comes to shots. I can't even LOOK at the needle. No wonder my girls freak out!
ReplyDeleteOh, I hate this part of parenthood. I'm looking forward to the day when I don't have to hold anyone down, screaming and looking at me like I just sold them for a bag of silver.
ReplyDeleteEEeek!
Tough little guy.
Oh, poor thing! Look at those bruises.
ReplyDeleteMy son had to get five shots at his last appointment to get him ready for Kindergarten. And now, of course, my three year old keeps telling me she is not going to "big kid school". She wasn't even in the room with my son but she got to hear how painful the shots were afterwards...in fact, he is still talking about them three months later!
I hate needles.. and I hate watching my own kids get needles..
ReplyDeletemy oldest son told me the EXACT same thing...and, he has been telling me every year since...that he isn't going on to the next grade. somehow, he has made it to the 6th grade...and, will go on to 7th through 12th...and off to college!! he may complain about it, every year but...oh well!!
ReplyDeleteOh, that just hurts my heart! Bless him.
ReplyDeleteShots suck. I remember my sister sneaking out when I was getting my shots when we were little. She was half-way down the street before anyone noticed she was missing. That was in the olden days when doctor's offices were tiny little one-story, street-side offices. Good thing my dad was a fast runner.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on Kindergarten! His poor little arm :( Hope it heals soon.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter did the same thing and then after informed me that it wasn't that bad. whatever!
ReplyDeleteChristina
Aww, poor guy! Battle scars and all. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy oldest and my youngest took it really well. My middle child? Not so much. It's hard being a kid.
ReplyDeleteI can' t blame him. Life is tough. I'm still working on some of the lesson from my kindergarten days.
