FatherLESS Day

Dear Brian,

Today is another big FIRST.

It is easier to prepare and tense up for a big blow you know is coming and brace your self to endure the anticipated pain from it than it is an unexpected flick on the ear.

So it is not these big events - these MONUMENTAL 'firsts" that are so difficult to endure. It is the small unexpected events in life - like seeing your favorite CINNAMON LIFE in the cereal section and realizing I am wiping a tear from eye in the next aisle - a tear I didn't even know surfaced.

Today on this first Father's Day without you, Brian. We celebrate your memory. We celebrate YOUR Dad. We celebrate your brothers. And I celebrate my boys - because I see parts of you in all of them.

And I know the Dad that you were to our children in their young years WILL mold them into wonderful big kids, young men, and responsible adults.

KEEP BELIEVING

  1. praying for you today. Do you think you could share a friendship with another young woman whose husband was just killed by a falling tree branch if you can believe that. I don't know was just thinking about it.

  10. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I agree. Although the firsts are hard and hard to get through the unexpected tears are so so much worse. I remember right after Shawn died one of his favorite video games was released. I really thought nothing about it. However,I walked into the store, saw the sign for the game and had tears in my eyes in the middle of the store. It took my breath away and made me hurt that I wouldn't be buying that for him this year.

    Thinking and praying for you.

  11. What a handsome man Brian is. Praying for you today, sweet Angie. I love what the Bible says about the legacy of a man who loves Jesus Christ:

But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear Him and His righteousness with their children's children--with those who obey Him and remember to keep His precepts. Psalm 103:17-18

Cling today that truth, Angie, as you rejoice over your boys having such an awesome daddy. Brian's life will continue to impact them greatly. Our heavenly Father is keeping you, Gavin, and Grant as the apple of His eye.

    Love--Shawn from TN

  12. I have been following your story since Stephanne Burkemper posted it on her blog. You are an amazing woman! Your honesty is so courageous. I lost my father to cancer when I was a teenager, so I can empathize with all the emotions. It never goes away, but time does make it easier. The way you express yourself in your posts gives me goosebumps. Keep up the good work!
