I was mowing the lawn the other day. In doing so, I stopped the mower no less than a dozen times to pluck out of the yard, 3 practice golf balls, a tennis racket, Nerf darts, a batman cape, 1-1/2 pairs of socks, a shovel, a football, 2 plastic cups, and a dismembered Power Ranger. And I was growing increasingly frustrated each time I had to stop the lawn mower to pick up the next item in my way. Until I realized that in just a few years, when I mow the lawn, there will no longer be 3 practice golf balls, a tennis racket, Nerf darts, a batman cape, 1-1/2 pairs of socks, a shovel, a football, 2 plastic cups, and a dismembered Power Ranger in my yard to pick up.

Another way to look at it:
ReplyDeleteIn a few short years, one of the boys can mow the yard for you & THEY can pick up the 3 practice golf balls, a tennis racket, Nerf darts, a batman cape, 1-1/2 pairs of socks, a shovel, a football, 2 plastic cups, and a dismembered Power Ranger. :)
It's all about perspective.
So, so true!
ReplyDeleteGood perspective, Angie.

I try to keep that in mind when the books and bags and towels are piled all over the place. Rest assured, you have some time left before the detritus disappears--and then you'll have some time where it's gone, but comes back every summer!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see you posting!
So glad to see you posting. How are the boyz doing in school? Did you take the job and if so how are you doing in the working (I thought all stay at home mothers worked) world.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do miss the little things scattered around the house. But, DH has filled in the gap with big things scattered around the house. Also, I can claim some of the big things too.
Take care, Karen W. in S.W. Ohio
P.S. Glad to see that your do have your priorities in order!
So so true and welcome back we all have missed you!
ReplyDeleteI love this, Angie. I cleaned out our basement play room this summer and sat down, with tears streaming down my face, holding a Belle dress -up costume in one hand and a Sleeping Beauty costume in the other hand, wondering where the time had gone. Suddenly the years seem to be sprinting ahead in their passing. I have five years until my son leaves for college. What am I doing to make the most of this time? And my daughters will follow him shortly afterwards. Thanks for the perspective. I need to be reminded almost daily that they are such a gift from God and that what I complain about having to do for them today, I will cry about not having to do for them all too soon.
ReplyDeleteLove, Shawn from TN
I enjoy your blog and am glad you're writing again! We have a daughter going to college in less than 2 years, so I have been feeling a little blue about that, too.
ReplyDeleteResources like the one you mentioned here will be very useful to me! I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful.
